Mac OS X lets you customize the dock in several ways. If you click “Dock” in the apple menu and select “Dock Preferences” a dialog will open with access to all of the Dock customization options.

You can use these customization options to:
- Edit the size of the Dock
- Turn Magnification on or off by clicking the check box (and the degree of Magnification)
- Choose the position of the Dock
- Select the effect used to minimize a window (Genie or Scale)
- Select the Animate box, which makes the icon for an application bounce when you open it
- Select the box to have Mac OS X hide the Dock when it is not being used
